A Project You Are Proud Of
mediumComplete guide with examples and interview questions · 15 min
Say it out loud in an interview — clear, simple, no textbook wording.
"Tell me about a project you are proud of" is a deep-dive prompt, not a show-and-tell. The interviewer will drill into it for ten minutes or more, so the project you pick must survive drilling.
Interviewers score three things. Was the problem real, with a constraint that forced choices. Were the decisions yours, with trade-offs you can explain. And can you criticise your own work now, with hindsight.
The trap is picking the biggest project. Size does not survive drilling; decisions do. Pick the project where you made the hardest calls, even if it was smaller, because the follow-ups will be about those calls.
Key takeaways
- •Pick the project with the hardest decisions, not the biggest one
- •Lead with the problem and the constraint, not the stack
- •Name three decisions and the trade-off in each
- •End on what you would change with what you know now
